How you can help

1. Donate Financially – The number of dogs we can rescue is directly proportional to the amount of money we have in our bank account. Every penny you donate goes to rescue efforts whether it be veterinary costs, boarding charges, shipping fees, dog food, etc… No one gets paid for anything we do – in fact, we all use our own money when the group coffers run dry. You can donate via Paypal, credit card, or by check. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and your donations are tax exempt.

2. Donate Needed Items – We are always in need of kennels, dog food, medications, and other such items. Kennels are used to transport dogs from the vets to/from foster care or the airport and to ship dogs from Puerto Rico to the states for adoption. Also fosters in Puerto Rico use them to keep their little ones in while in their care. The following medications are helpful:

    • Albon
    • Metronidizole
    • Clavamox
    • Doxycyclene
    • Nutrical/Lixotinic
    • K9 Advantix
    • Iverhart/Heartgard
    • Pyrantel
    • Amoxicillin
    • Ivermectin
    • Antibiotic ointments
    • DHLPP vaccines
    • SNAP tests
Also collars, treats, leashes, kitty litter, etc… are always needed.

Contact Ginny for further information on donating items.

3. Donate Air Miles – Your air miles can be used to ship dogs from Puerto Rico to the states for adoption. Contact us if interested in doing this.

4. Escort a Dog to the States for Adoption – It costs you nothing but a few minutes of your time to check a dog in as baggage on your trip from Puerto Rico to the states.

5. Collect Old Cell Phones and Used Printer Cartridges for Recycling – Collect cartridge and cell phones to send to Funding Factory. We have an account and accumulate a value into that account for each qualifying item sent. Post “wanted” signs in local shops and offices with a bin attached for the items to be deposited (get permission first and pick up frequently). Once you get a good supply of items, let us know and we’ll send you pre-paid UPS packing slips. Just pack the items into boxes, affix the labels and drop off at your local mailing depot and the credits go into our account.

6. Foster a Beach Dog – We are always desperate for foster homes for our rescued dogs – both in Puerto Rico and in the states. Foster homes are very hard to come by so we are usually forced to keep them at veterinarian offices which is costly. It’s also no fun for the dogs and they do not get the work on socialization and training that they need. If you can foster a dog for a few days or a few weeks, WE NEED YOU!!! Contact Ginny for more information.

7. Raise Funds – Hold a fundraiser to make some money to help with animal rescue efforts. Ideas include raffles, car washes, rummage sales, bowl-a-thon, etc… Or make flyers attached to jars or canisters and place them at vets offices, pet stores, or even at your workplace (get permission first!). Contact Ginny for more information.

8. Adopt a Beach Dog – We’ll help you find the perfect one to become a new and loving member of your family. Check out our adoption information and view current satos ready for adoption at our Petfinder page.

9. Ask your Employer to Match your Donation – Many employers thesedays are happy to match all or a portion of your donation to an official 501c3 non-profit organization. Ask your Human Resources representative how to apply for these matching donations. If your company does not already match donations, urge them to do so!

10. Write a Letter – Write letters to the Governor of Puerto Rico, U. S. Representative Luis Fortuno, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and tell them it is time for them to make animal welfare a priority on the island. Tell them you will not visit their island until significant changes in the treatment of animals occur. Urge them to introduce public awareness campaigns to promote spay/neuter, teach proper animal treatment in the schools, and provide low-cost spay/neuter to the citizens of Puerto Rico.

11. Use “Good Search” for a Search Engine – Instead of Yahoo or Google, go to www.goodsearch.com and select Hands for Paws/Manos por Patas in the “Who Do You GoodSearch For?” box and every time you conduct a search, $0.01 goes into our account. As of July 1, we’ve raised $86.44 this year! EVERY PENNY COUNTS!!!

12. Spread the Word! – Tell your friends and coworkers about the horrible animal welfare situation in Puerto Rico.
